I have sat around way too long on this issue.
It started a few years back when Lil John produced that joint with the Ozzy Osbourne sample called "Lets Go" or something like that. Right then I was furious and not because I wasn't into very much rap outside of Kanye West at the time, but because I saw this trend happening.
There was a few more pieces in a puzzle such as the whole wave of Rap Metal like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and both of them while being very successful released a rap based remix edition of both their respective albums.
All it took was one huge single to bring it into the forefront...
Within the first 24 hours every person with no sense of logic or originality that heard this song decided to not just put it on their Myspace pages but find a way to "cleverly" include the phrase in to whatever they did.
Ask anyone with any good basis in music and you'll know that rock and roll much like rap was founded in the core ideologies of urban black music which at the time was in the form of blues. Since then the powers that be took whatever integrity was in both genre's and smashed them over our fucking heads.
What makes you a "Rockstar"?
Well in the song "Im A J" by Lil John he states it clearly with,
"...it's ya boy lil john
im a fucking rockstar bitch,
that means I get high and fucked up every day..."
Clear cut definition to what people consider a "rockstar mentality".
Look at 2 of the biggest rock acts of all time that cover the basis for "Partying Like A Rockstar":
Metallica - Arguably the biggest band of all time while not managing to outshine their forefathers such as Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, etc Metallica has managed to be the biggest music franchise in the world. They put out reasonably consistent music and stayed true to themselves regardless if you liked their experimentation with their sound and style.
Now they were at one point known by the nickname of "Alcoholica" for the sheer amounts of alcohol they would consume and it was no private matter with there drug addictions especially the lead singer had very hard times with that and eventually went to rehab for his drinking habits. He wrote a very deep letter to his fans claiming his independence from drinking to gave him clear cut decisions in his life to which he said he "chose to live".
This is kind of like when your good friend stops doing things that you both knew were bad for you and you suddenly get the realization that it was a bad idea to begin with.
Nirvana - A band with enough hype behind them to still have buzz today and were part of a movement in music during the 90's that changed the face of rock and roll. Everyone knows that Kurt Cobain the singer killed himself and was a drug addict. Anyone that's ever thought Kurt Cobain was hot probably says that Johnny Depp is hot, yeah we'll those black satchel rings around his eyes aren't sexy well planned make up those are years of pain and anguish addicted to a drug that ultimately led to his death. If you have ever read his diary you would find out he hated his addiction and would of done anything to be sober and around his daughter growing up because she was the biggest factor in his life.
So please next time you all decide to suck cock and jump on the next band wagon make up your minds.
